Aquarian Rock

Aquarian Rock

Aquarian Rock is the most popular -- and perhaps most misunderstood -- styles of New Age. It is the most popular style because it is featured in nearly all soft rock stations and it is [perhaps] the most misunderstood because many think that this style of New Age is merely another form of soft rock. Much would be clarified on Aquarian Rock, and this essay will be extensive on this New Age style.

Common Instruments

History

Like Aquarian Gospel, Aquarian Rock can be traced back to the inspirational sounds of the latter-day Beatles, Bob Dylan, and many other "hippie" artists. In the 1970's, artists like New Age-turned-Muslim Cat Stevens and Gaian John Denver became big name folk artists and prominent New Agers -- even before New Age music was even announced.

Aquarian Rock was based upon the very principles that make up New Age music, although this New Age style made its way to the pop charts and had its singers become multi-millionaires. Modern Aquarian rock artists include Enya, Peter Gabriel and Sarah McLauchlan.

Content

Aquarian Rock is sung in a loving, inspirational manner, in a way that can capture all audiences. It has been proven true that one does not have to be New Age in order to listen to New Age music, particularly the inspirational Aquarian rock style. And to make it more appealing, Aquarian rock is sung in the same manner as soft rock, only soft rock is more secular and romantic.

Note: Peter Gabriel did not start out as a New Age artist but gradually switched to New Age after some influence.
